  You know those TV commercials featuring happy, smiling home depot employees who are very helpful and knowledgeable? That would be a reason I went to home depot. I have an idea of what I want to do, what I might need and how I would like it to look. I have no idea really what kind of screws, boards, studs, brackets, wood stain and finish I need, I just know I need them and I'll find someone to help me. Right? Enter first employee we stop, not rude, but also not very interested to help. We part our ways after he points to some wood planks. Enter the second employee I ask for help, Gerri. After brief explanation of the project and our skill and knowledge level - we get first class fatherly advice, get different wood boards, brackets, screws, drill etc, have to think wether our walls are plaster or drywall, get the studs finder, all of that with attention, care, patience, help, understanding, humor and within minutes the trust is established and this guy can sell me anything. I already think how I will make sure his supervisors know what a great employee and a person he is. He sends us to paint department for wood stain and finishing. Enter Richard. I explain project, desired look, needs and skill level. Richard is already visibly annoyed and during our interaction, after I ask question after question , a - because I didn't understand the answer or b- I didn't get one - he starts huffing and puffing, shifting and then rolling his eyes. His attitude is worse than that of a hormonal teenager, and while he may have the knowledge, he has zero people skills. I walk away. I'm so upset that I don't even argue with this guy. His attitude is so bad that the best thing to do is to walk away. Walk away right into the arms of Gerri again, who manages to find for us everything we need to properly prepare, stain and finish the wood. Plus, we learn how to actually do it. So, when I go to home depot again, and I will - but only because of Gerri, I will call to make sure he is working. The home depot will have my business not because of home depot, but because of Gerri. If it was for the other guy, the huffing puffing super annoyed rolling his eyes guy - no home depot would have a penny of mine. Why three stars? Because Gerri gets 10. The first guy takes away 2, Richard takes away 5.
